Placements

In the fall, we generally only place students at...
- Baldwin High School
- Oak Hill Middle School (Baldwin)
- Early College (on campus)
- Georgia Military College Middle School
- Georgia Military College High School
- Jones County High School
- Clifton Ridge Middle School (Jones Co)
- Gray Station Middle School (Jones Co)
- 9th Grade Academy (Jones Co)
- Carson Middle School (Greene Co, a longer drive, but one of the best teachers in the state is there)
- Lake Oconee Academy Middle School (a longer drive, this is a posh public charter school in Greene co)

In your post, tell me as much or as little as you want. Things you might want to tell me...
- I'd prefer to start with middle/high
- I live in X county, so I'd like to be placed there
- I want the best possible host teacher, so put me with Mr. Monell in Greene Co.
- I don't care where I am placed, I just want a host teacher who is _____
- A friend from last year's cohort said that Mr./Ms X would be a great match for me.

  1. i'd prefer to be somewhere in Baldwin County -- Oak Hill, Baldwin High School, or GMC in the fall. also, i'd much rather start with middle school (maybe at Oak Hill, since i'll most likely be teaching at a public school after i graduate). i'm really considering teaching middle school, so i'd like to go ahead & try it out first. i wouldn't be disappointed if assigned BHS though. i love that they are on block scheduling.

also, i would like a host teacher that you think i will mesh well with (you have a good feel of my personality, organizational skills, & work ethic by now), so i trust your judgment. And, it'd be nice to have a host teacher who can guide me with tips for becoming a better teacher.

**however, maybe toward the spring i would be willing to drive further, possibly to greene. i think by that time i'll know whether i want to teach middle school for sure. i would love to learn from ajayi! he's so innovative & we have similar stories...especially about studying so hard for the GACE, but not letting a few roadblocks get in the way. now look at him! i hope he's coming back to speak to the cohort this july!

  2. I will be happy anywhere for my first placement, but I would prefer a host teacher who is fairly patient and supportive. If it is outside of Baldwin I would also prefer being placed in the same area as someone who likes driving more than I do, but that is not necessary.

  3. After tutoring at Baldwin High this past spring, I would love to be placed there! I would also like to stay in Baldwin County for my middle school placement, at least for the fall. I'm fine with starting at either high school or middle school.

As for host teachers, I am big on organization and would feel most comfortable with a teacher who has this same mindset. I think this would help me transition into their classroom as well. I'm hoping for a host teacher who will be able to help me along the way and give me tips/advice and won't mind if I ask a lot of questions. I'm curious and want to learn, but I don't want to annoy or agitate my host teacher!!

  4. I grew up in Jones County so I wouldn't mind going there. But Baldwin is also perfectly fine with me. It would be nice to maybe see some of my students from EC again. I think I would rather do middle school first though, but I am definitely okay with either in any order. I'm far more excited than I am picky. Also, if I get Jones County I am open to leading a carpool for/with whoever else ends up there. Plus I know the area so I can show y'all around.

    1. Will this effect our placements in the Spring? In the Spring, I would really like to be with the French teacher in Jones County that everyone says is really great. If I could have her in the fall as well that would be neat!

I would like to teach in Private schools when I graudate, and I live in Milledgeville now, so GMC would be my high school pick.

I would like to start with middle school. Oak Hill Middle maybe? Also, if there are really good French teachers at certain schools, I would like to be placed there. I want the best possible host teacher, one I will learn a lot from. I also would like to be placed in or close to Milledgeville for Fall semester, definitely in a French class.

  6. I'd be fine with either Jones or Baldwin County. I would prefer to start out in middle school. I would love to have a host teacher who I can learn a lot from and someone who will allow me to ask questions. It would be an added bonus to be paired with someone who coaches a sport as I am considering coaching!

  7. I would like to be in either Jones County High or Baldwin High first in the Fall, then GMC middle school last in the Fall. Whatever host teacher you think I would work well with and also someone with good organizational strategies.

  8. Use your best judgement and put me in the best situation Dr. Alby. Wherever that may be.

  9. I do not care which semester I do middle school/high school! I would love to do my middle school placement at GMC and my high school placement at Baldwin so I get to see both ends of the spectrum. Side note: I do want to teach in a private/Christian school when I graduate. I work well with most everybody, so I would just like to be put with a teacher who is good at what they do and I could learn a lot from! :)

  10. I would prefer elementary, then middle, then high. I would hope to be placed in Baldwin co, but whatever works out for the best. For the first two, I would love to try out the art classes, but once in the high school setting, I was hoping to get placed in a broadcast class or even a yearbook, journalism, or computer class.

  11. Correct me if I am wrong, but is Baldwin High School the one within walking distance from the Village? I know that I should make this decision based upon pedagogical reason with careful consideration, but I am completely without the means of even leaving my apartment complex until Monday (because the shuttle system has been cut off), so I will give way to the crudest pragmatic considerations as a pedestrian. Unless someone is willing to carpool (and I do not feel like I could bring much to such an arrangement, leaving me in their debt), this seems like the best option for now.

  12. I think that I would like to start with middle school and then move to high school but that is not a big factor for me. I would like to get experiences in both public and private schools just to see what it is like. I have heard good things about Jones Co and think I would like to try being placed in one of their high schools.

  13. I live in Eatonton (Putnam County), so I'd prefer somewhere close to that. Lake Oconee Academy may be the closest, as I live near the lake. Ideally, I think I'd like a very liberal school and feel I need a host teacher who's very good with someone who often feels like he has no idea what he's doing. :P

I feel I may relate better with Middle Schoolers rather than High Schoolers, but honestly, I don't know that for certain. Whatever you think is best.

  14. I would love to be placed in Jones County High School with a teacher who is organized and of good quality. Someone who doesn't mind answering questions and who is patient. But I will also take Baldwin High with the same kind of teacher as well as GMC High. For middle school, I'd like either middle school in Jones county or GMC middle school but I'd like to get high school over with first.

  15. I'm not very picky about placements at all really. I guess I would like to be placed at Baldwin for high school and GMC for middle since they are both close in terms of distance. It doesn't matter which one I start out with either. I would like to be placed with a teacher who is organized, enthusiastic, patient, and has lots of advice for a new teacher like me.
