Questions for Noel Schornhorst

  1. Guess what? I used to have a friend who worked for the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta. Have you ever been there? Well, she arranged for a workshop for a group of teachers I was working with to learn muppet making from one of the Jim Hensen crew. I still have my creation in my office. I never finished him because I got mostly done but then I decided I really loved how he looked in his unfinished state. He is looking a little ragged these days. I have used him in classes many a time to play "the ghost" of various famous authors. I'll have to remember to show him to you.

  2. Oh, and I'm very envious that you got to go to SCAD! One of my former students from Baldwin High School is there, and I am trying to live vicariously through her on Facebook.

P.S. You and anyone else should feel free to "friend" me on Facebook but don't feel you have to.

    1. Neat! I always wanted to visit the Center for Puppetry Arts, but never had the opportunity. I also wanted to visit the aquarium and Coca Cola place. I would love to see the puppet! Neat!

SCAD was fun and it's a good school, but *VERY* expensive. I had considered getting a masters there, but due to the extreme cost and also some upheaval in the sequential art department faculty-wise, I decided not to do it.

  3. Noel, I couldn't help but notice that you're an avid Disney fan, as am I! What is your favorite Disney movie?

P.S. Dr. Alby, my 5th grade class took a field trip to the Center for Puppetry Arts and we created our own muppets with brown paper bags. It was one of my favorite field trips!

    1. Cool! I love Disney! My favorite Disney movie is Who Framed Roger Rabbit (Touchstone is owned by Disney). Aside from that, I'd say The Muppet Movie (which is now Disney-owned). Aladdin is my favorite 'pure' Disney movie, although I greatly love most of the Winnie the Pooh films as well. In terms of Pixar, Up is my favorite.

I'm so envious of you and Dr. Alby getting to make puppets! I really should go sometime, but it likely won't be for awhile...

  4. Noel, my family and I love Disney World too! I think if I could be a Disney princess for the rest of my life I'd be happy :) I really want to go to DragonCon eventually, but every year our family reunions fall on Labor Day weekend so I can never go! Which Harry Potter is your favorite book? Viewing them as separate works, mine is Prisoner of Azkaban, but in the scope of the series, it's gotta be Deathly Hallows.

  5. Awesome! Which princess is your favorite? DragonCon is fun, but if you've never been before, it can be a bit overwhelming. It's very crowded and spread over several motels. Family reunions are more important, anyhow! Hmmm... I think I like Order of the Phoenix best... mostly due to the final battle at the Ministry, but Deathly Hallows too, although the deaths made me sad. :P

  6. How did you feel about the death of George Weasley?? Do you think Harry should have died??

    1. I didn't like the Weasley twins being broken up, but it makes sense, I suppose, given how large the Weasley family was, that one of the main ones should probably die.

Harry did technically die. I was satisfied with that.

  7. I love Savannah, so I think it's really cool you went to school there!
Where has been your favorite place you've lived?

    1. Savannah can be pretty nice. :) My favorite place? That's tricky. There are great and awful elements to each. The cheese-lover in me says Wisconsin, though. Yum!

    1. Cool! I was a baby. I wanna guess I was less than one. I, too, came from Seoul.

I went to Leopold's a couple times. It was snazzy, but a bit pricey. I remember having a huckleberry sundae there once and a separate time, trying rose petal ice cream. Both were good.

  9. Did you make any short films? I want to see them if you did.

    1. I've been in several student films, but I didn't direct or write them or anything-- just acted.

I *did* do some short films when I first started SCAD, but I think those have been lost to the ravages of time (thankfully). :P

  10. What is SCAD like? The atmosphere? The professors?

    1. SCAD was fun, pretty much. Overall, I got along okay with most of the students and I met some of my favorite teachers ever there. Of course, there were awful people (students and professors) too...

The campus is awfully large, scattered around the downtown and part of midtown. The buildings are restored historic buildings and classes are generally fairly small (about the size of our class). The atmosphere was pretty fun for the most part, I think, but I guess it depended on where you live and who you hang out with and stuff.
